Your video, resume, head shot, and dance shot are not due until after you register. Please use the information below to prepare your submissions, but do not send to us until you have registered. Registration is now open.
Please submit your materials to info@nationalmasteraudition.org
Photos are to be submitted as JPEGs. Videos are to be submitted as YouTube links. Resumes are to be submitted as PDFs. These formats are chosen because they are easiest to open across a range of devices. If you send other things, some directors may not be able to see you.
Audition Video Requirements
Your video should include:
Classwork
Steps for classwork should be short, as it is best if your video is as close to 5 minutes in length as possible. Do not skip classwork for the time limit, though. It’s better to go longer and include all the elements than to cut sections.
Barre:
Plies in 2nd (side view)
Adagio
Grand Battement
Center (en pointe for women):
Adagio
Pirouettes en dehors & en dedens
Petit allegro
Grand Allegro
Tour en l’air & battu (men only)
If you would like to show fouettes, the directors would like to see them. This is optional, but encouraged.
Partnering (Men - If you have partnering experience to show, please do so. Women, if you have extensive partnering experience, you are free to include it. You can add a minute to the time limit if showing pas de deux on your reel.)
Classical Variation
Modern/Contemporary Variation
(this does not need to be professionally choreographed)
Your video should be of you dancing alone(except pas de deux, of course). If you film classwork in a regular class, please stand apart from other dancers at the barre and in the center, and be in your own group across the floor, so directors can tell who you are.
You may film on a phone. Nothing needs to be professionally filmed, although we do encourage you to set the phone in place or use a tripod, so it is stable and clear. You do not need costumes or stage footage. Directors are only interested in seeing a clear view of your dancing.
Please put all footage in a single video.
Videos must be posted on YouTube. You may make your video public or unlisted, but not private, as the link will need to be shared with all the directors.
Resume Requirements
A proper resume is required as part of the audition process. Here is a sample resume you may use as a guide. You may download this to use as a template if you wish, or you may format your resume as you prefer.
Please note that the directors have specifically requested the information at the top, including age, height, and citizenship/visa status.
They have also requested that you include references.
They have also requested that you submit your materials as early as possible. The directors get the materials as they are received by us, so the sooner you submit, the more responsible you look.
Head Shot & Dance Shot Requirements
Your head shot should clearly show your face. Your first dance photo should be in a first arabesque. You may include an additional dance shot if you wish.
You do not need professional photos. This is just for the directors to be able to identify you and see a preview of your dancing.
Photos are to be submitted as jpeg images, and must be a minimum of 800x800 pixels or 2 MB. No photos larger than 25 MB, please. Please submit photos as separate files.
Dress Code
There is no mandatory dress code for the audition. However, our advice is that conservative dress is always more favorably received. For ladies, we recommend that you have your hair in a clean bun with no bangs. Leotards in colors are fine, but please have your tights under your leotard, not over. Tights with holes, runs, or cutouts don’t make as good an impression.
For men, shirts should be fitted, not baggy, so the directors can see you clearly, and tights should be full-footed. Hair should be out of your face.
Ladies may bring a tutu to wear for your variation if desired.
Variation
You may be asked to perform classical variation at the audition. We will need your music NO LATER than December 20th, 2024. You may send either an audio file or a youtube link. If you do not submit your music by December 20th, you will not be eligible to be called back for a variation. Yes, we know you have Nutcracker. We all have Nutcracker.
Although a contemporary variation is part of your video, you will not be asked to dance this at the audition, so you do not need to submit your music for the contemporary variation.
